local government to consolidate county and city services to form the
Columbus Consolidated Government.  Consolidation sparked a period
of change and growth.  AFLAC  grew from a regional supplemental
insurance provider to a national and international provider, finally
to a household word.  Columbus is also the home of TSYS, a data
processing company that services many of your credit cards. 
Total Systems has grown from a small basement and back room
ClearingHouse for CB&T, to an international PowerHouse. 
Columbus is growing and changing!          

 Columbus has evolved from a thriving river port in the 1800's, to a
robust community led by and dependent upon the textile industry. 
The 1970's brought an arm of the Interstate system to Ft. Benning
and through Columbus.  Along with the highway came more business
and more growth.  Recent changes have involved the demise of 
Columbus College and a bigger and better Columbus State University
has grown in its place.  Fort Benning is currently undergoing a new
construction phase that will not only improve the greatest infantry
base in the world, it will also be the new home of the Armor Center.
